In addition to teaching, Mr. Burrow serves on the executive board of the Iowa Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He currently serves as newsletter editor and webmaster for that organization. In the past he was the regional director for AEA 3 and the group's delegate to the Iowa Coalition of Educators. He has presented at conferences and written for the ICTM Journal. He was recently honored for his long-term work with ICTM.
Mr. Burrow is a certified judge for the Iowa High School Speech Association (for which he received a commendation for excellence in 2005), and he has also served as a judge for the speech and interview categories for regional Academic Decathlon competitions. He also frequently serves as a reader or judge at area quiz bowl tournaments. His other professional memberships include the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Phi Delta Kappa, and the National Catholic Education Association.
In addition to his other professional activities, Mr. Burrow has served on the advisory board for the "Science Bound" project at Iowa State University. This program provides advanced opportunities to talented minority students from inner city Des Moines. He has also served as a school evaluator for the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and he continues to be on the CORE curriculum steering committee at his school.
